For too long, exercise has been about form over function, focused on creating attractive bodies over able bodies. This has led to a fitness culture of over-exercising and under-recovering, creating alignment problems, injuries, and pain.

This singular focus on body composition ignores the numerous other components of fitness- muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, balance, agility, coordination, speed, power, and reaction time.

Prioritizing caloric expenditure doesn’t necessarily improve these other components and can actually make them worse. However, by creating a more comprehensive approach to exercise that focuses on these other areas, caloric expenditure and fat loss will follow.
